How much Google Ads costs a small business in 2026

"How much does Google Ads cost?" has two answers, because you're really asking about two different expenses: what you pay Google for each click, and what you pay whoever manages the account. Mixing them up is why so many small businesses compare quotes that can't be compared. Here's the breakdown.

The two costs behind Google Ads

The ad budget. This is the money spent on the campaign itself. You pay it directly to Google with your own card, and you decide the maximum per day or per month. Nobody else touches it.

The management. This is the work of whoever sets up the account, chooses the keywords, writes the ads, watches the spend and optimises. It's paid to that person or agency, usually as a monthly fee.

When a provider says "Google Ads from €150", the first thing to ask is which of the two they mean. An honest quote always separates them into two lines.

How much ad budget does a small business need?

There is no magic number, and anyone who gives you one without asking about your industry and your area is guessing. What you can do is reason with the simplest arithmetic:

  • €5 a day is about €150 a month.
  • €10 a day is about €300 a month.

Those amounts are enough to start testing, and it usually works well to begin with a test budget of €5-10 a day and scale based on results. You can work with less in very specific niches — there's a detailed strategy in Google Ads on a budget: €50 a month — but you need to be realistic about what you'll learn and achieve.

What really decides how much you need:

How competitive your industry is. Every click costs more when many businesses bid on the same searches. An urgent-service search in a big city doesn't behave like a trade with little competition in a small town.

What a customer is worth to you. If a new customer leaves you a healthy margin, you can afford to pay more to win one. If the margin is thin, there's little room for error and spend needs tighter control.

How many customers you want each month. It's arithmetic: if you need a certain number of enquiries, the budget has to cover the clicks required to get them. Not the other way round.

Your website and your offer. Google brings visits; what turns them into enquiries is your page and your proposition. A slow or confusing site makes every customer more expensive because it wastes clicks you've already paid for.

How much does Google Ads management cost?

Here there are market ranges worth knowing. These are indicative ranges for freelancers and small businesses in Spain in 2026:

Item Indicative market range Notes
Basic account management €75–200/month Simple structure, few campaigns, little follow-up.
Fuller freelance management €100–300/month on top of the basic level More campaigns, more optimisation, a report with enquiries.
Ad budget You set it Paid to Google, separate from management.
Website or landing page Separate If you don't have one that converts, it has to be added.

Like any range, it says little without knowing what each fee includes. Two providers quoting the same figure can be doing very different things: one reviewing the account every week, the other glancing at it now and then.

What I charge

My Google Ads and Meta Ads service has two items: initial setup and configuration from €300 (one-off) and monthly management from €150/month, not including the campaign budget, which you pay directly to Google or Meta. That way you always see where every euro goes. You work with me directly, no middlemen, and the report focuses on what matters: enquiries and cost per customer, not just clicks.

On the first call I confirm the exact figure for your case. What's included is on the advertising page.

What you overpay when the work is poor

The management fee is the most visible cost, but the most expensive mistake never shows up on an invoice. It's spending on clicks that don't help:

Keywords that are too broad. Advertising on a generic search attracts people who aren't looking for what you sell, and every one of those clicks is paid for just the same.

No tracking of enquiries. If nobody measures how many calls and forms come from the ads, you don't know which campaign works and which just spends. A report full of impressions and clicks dodges exactly the question that matters.

Campaigns nobody reviews. The first week is a learning period, and from there it's about optimising with real data. A campaign without review bleeds money quietly.

Ads that lead to a site that doesn't convince. It's the most common failure and the cheapest to fix: the landing page. If yours needs help, see how much a website costs in Spain in 2026.

It depends on how your customers find you. Google Ads reaches people who are already searching for what you sell, which is why it often works well for urgent or very specific services. Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) reaches people who aren't looking for you yet but fit your customer profile, and it works better when the product sells visually or the need has to be awakened. The full comparison is in Google Ads vs Meta Ads: which to choose.

You don't have to choose forever: many small businesses start with the channel that brings enquiries faster and add the other once they know what works.

How to ask for a quote without getting it wrong

Before you say yes, ask for these four things in writing:

  1. What the monthly fee includes: how many campaigns, how many reviews, what report you get and how often.
  2. Who owns the account: the Google Ads account must be in your name, not the provider's. If you ever part ways, the account and its history go with you.
  3. How the ad budget is paid: directly to Google, with your card. Be wary of anyone who asks you to hand over the ad money.
  4. What the exit terms are: a long lock-in with no clear conditions doesn't suit a service you can measure month by month.

And one red flag: anyone who guarantees specific results in customers or ranking. Nobody controls Google's auctions.

When Google Ads isn't worth it

Being honest also means saying when I wouldn't recommend it. If your website isn't ready to receive visits, if you're not clear on what you offer, or if the margin per customer is so small it doesn't cover the cost of winning one, it's better to fix that first. In some cases, starting with your Google listing and local SEO is cheaper and more profitable in the long run. In the audit I tell you where I'd start, even if it isn't advertising.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Google Ads cost per month for a small business? It adds up two items: the ad budget, which you decide (€5-10 a day is a reasonable starting point for testing), and the management, which in my case is an initial setup from €300 plus management from €150/month. The final figure depends on your industry and your goal.

Can I start with a small budget? Yes, especially in specific niches and with a tightly scoped campaign. What matters is knowing what can be learned and achieved with that amount, and not expecting a volume of customers from a test budget.

Do I pay Google or you for the ad money? Google, directly. I only charge the management, and you always see where every euro goes.

How long until it delivers results? The first week is a learning period while the campaign gathers data. From there it's adjusted against what really happens, and you'll normally see enquiries sooner than with SEO, which is slower work.

Do you guarantee a number of customers? No, and be wary of anyone who does. What I do commit to is managing the spend well, measuring enquiries and cost per customer, and showing you the data.

Is Google Ads better than SEO? They're different things. Google Ads delivers quickly while you pay; SEO takes longer but compounds over time. Many small businesses combine both: ads to get started and SEO to build something lasting. See how much SEO costs per month.
